Artistic Philosophy
I am a dancer, performer, and emerging choreographer who approaches my work with intelligence, kindness, discipline, and creative integrity. My artistry is rooted in both concert dance and musical theater, with a strong technical foundation in ballet serving as the base for my movement vocabulary. I believe technique is essential not only for precision, but for freedom because the stronger the foundation, the more honestly and fearlessly an artist can express their voice.
I trained for fifteen years at Thomas Dance Studio under the direction of Jessica Spencer, where I developed my technical foundation, artistic discipline, and deep love for dance. Jessica has had a great impact on me as both a dancer and a person. From a young age, she encouraged my passion for movement and continuously challenged me to grow as an artist. Her work ethic, kindness, and dedication to her students shaped the way I approach both performance and leadership in the studio.
I continued my training in high school at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, where I spent four years studying dance and musical theatre. During that time, I performed in numerous musical theater productions as a dancer, while also serving as dance captain and associate choreographer. These experiences strengthened my leadership skills and taught me the importance of collaboration, storytelling, and supporting a cast as both a performer and creative contributor.
I am currently in my first year of training at The Juilliard School under the direction of Melissa Toogood, where I continue to expand my artistic voice through rigorous conservatory training. Being surrounded by artists who challenge and inspire me has deepened my understanding of movement, performance, and the responsibility of being an artist in today’s world.
My goal is to pursue a professional career that bridges both concert dance and theater. I aspire to perform with a contemporary ballet company, dance in a concert dance company, work on Broadway, and continue developing my voice as a choreographer. I am drawn to work that makes an audience feel something, whether through technical excellence, emotional honesty, or powerful storytelling.
When I choreograph, I listen deeply to the music, studying its accents, rhythms, and emotional texture so movement can reflect what is heard and felt. I often connect choreography to a narrative, whether inspired by personal experiences or imagined stories that serve the dancers and the work. I am most inspired by performers who combine strong technique with vulnerability, musicality, and risk-taking artists who are unafraid to move fully and honestly.
Ultimately, my purpose as an artist is to create work that moves people and to encourage young dancers to trust and share their own individual artistic voices. Everyone has a story worth telling, and I hope to continue contributing to a dance community where artistry, discipline, and authenticity are equally valued.
